How to Prepare for Unexpected Moving Costs

When it comes time to move, there are expenses that you know will accrue. You will obviously have to purchase packing supplies like boxes, bubble wrap, labeling supplies, and the like. If you are renting you will have to fulfill your end of the rental agreement by likely having your home cleaned by hiring an expert cleaning service. You may have to have carpets cleaned as well. This will, of course, depend on the terms of your contract. If you are utilizing a professional moving service, there will be additional costs there depending on the level of assistance you need.

A Mother’s Touch Movers has been in the business for over 30 years and we bring every ounce of our knowledge and expertise to the residents of Brevard County with professional courteous help customized to your specific needs. We can do everything for you or provide only what you need such as assisting with truck loading or unpacking. Whatever your needs, we can create a plan just for you. One thing we know for sure is that having a plan in place before moving day will help you get the job done with less stress. However, moving carries with it a host of unexpected issues and we don’t want you to get caught off guard. Let’s take a look at potential unexpected fees that could pop up because of your move.

You Have to Eat

Once you are out of your home, apartment, or condo you will have to restock the pantry and that can be expensive. Unless you are moving across town and have your utilities set up in your new place, you will have to toss or give away any perishable items, which means you have to do a big shopping trip once you are settled. You know you have to eat but remember to set aside some extra money so that this cost won’t derail you.

Membership Fees

If you are a member of a gym, club, activity group, etc. you will need to take a look at your contract before you move. There may be a cancellation fee you were not expecting.

Storage

Storage units can be expensive and recurring. This is something that most people factor in when they move but if you end up needing additional storage for any length of time you are going to feel it in your wallet. Do your best to determine whether or not you will need to rent a storage unit before you move.

Appliances

Oftentimes the previous owners of your new home will leave appliances. This is great news for you. However, they are not required to do so and if you aren’t prepared for this you will end up paying quite a bit to replace any appliances that are not there. Check with your Realtor and make sure you understand the terms of your contract so that you can budget accordingly.

No one can predict every expense related to moving. There will be surprises here and there, but the more prepared you are beforehand the better you will be able to handle any unforeseen expenses.
