Kitchens are often thought of as the heart of a home. Think about it for a moment. Chances are you have fond childhood memories of baking cookies at Christmas or sipping lemonade during the summertime. Maybe you had a significant conversation that changed the course of your life during dinner at the table. Kitchens can also be major selling points for a home. If you are currently searching for a new place in Brevard County, you know this is absolutely true. So, what happens if you find the perfect place? And we mean the absolute dream home with the view you wanted in the location you desire…but the kitchen isn’t quite as large as you’d like? Well, not all hope is lost. The great news is that you can make your small kitchen fully functional with a few tips and tricks.

1. Let the Sunshine In

If at all possible, keep your kitchen space light and bright. Light has the ability to make a given room appear much larger. It opens up a space creating an airy feel. You can also achieve this by using light bright colors. Let light and color work to your advantage in a small space.

If your budget and tastes allow, you can always open up your kitchen to the outside with French doors as you see here at Better Homes and Gardens. This architectural hack will serve a dual purpose for you. It will allow more light in and let you open up your dining space to include any outdoor living areas.

2. Keep Furniture Simple

If you are working with a small space, you don’t want to use bulky furniture. This will cause the area to look crowded and cluttered. Instead, consider smaller pieces that can perform double duty. For example, what about a wall-mounted kitchen table? When not in use, you can simply fold it away and use the extra space as needed. Bar stools, if needed, can be of the more minimalist variety to keep the kitchen simple and more open.

3. Think Differently About Cabinetry

Every kitchen needs a functional accessible storage space that works. If you are partial to cabinets, why not consider replacing solid fronts with glass. This will make them appear larger and give allow for more reflective space for light.

Another great tip is to use the space ABOVE your cabinets for additional storage. You can find cute metal or fabric baskets and place items in them eliminating counter-top clutter.

If you ready to really open up the wall space, why not opt for open shelving. These can be cost-effective solutions that allow you to really maximize your wall space.
