Stay Safe Moving in the Heat

Prime time moving season is officially here. Around 40 million people changes residences each year and a whopping 80 percent of these moves happen from April until September, with June and July being peak moving months. Moving is never a super exciting time. Add in the heat and humidity of a Melbourne, FL summer and you have a big task on your hands. A Mother’s Touch Movers has been helping the residents and businesses of Brevard County with their moves for years. No matter the weather conditions, we can create a moving experience that is truly seamless. From start to finish, we can create a customized moving package catered to your needs. Need help packing and boxing up belongings? Call us! Want help unloading your truck? We can help you there. What about packing supplies? We offer everything you need to make a successful move. One thing is for sure, we have your back during the moving process and we love partnering with you to make the experience a pleasant one.

One thing you need to take into account if you are moving during the heat is proper self-care and preparation. Here are some great tips to keep you and your family safe on moving day, with less than pleasant weather conditions.

Plan Ahead

Before moving day, check the weather and stock up on supplies. Consider packing a cooler with ice and water along with hydrating foods like watermelon and grapes. When packing up, take the heat into account. Perishable items and those things susceptible to melting like candles or food need to be stored properly. They probably will not fare well in the heat of a truck for long periods so either pack them last or find another way to transport them.

Drink Up

You need to make sure everyone assisting with the move is well hydrated. This is true no matter the day but becomes crucial in the heat and humidity.

Dress Appropriately

Loose fitting clothing is your best option on sweltering days. It is also best to make sure your clothing items are light in color, as darker colors tend to absorb more heat.

Mid-Week Move

If possible, try to schedule your move during the middle of the week when rental trucks are more readily available. Because the summer months are packed with movers, it may be easier to rent trucks during the week rather than waiting until the weekends. Of course, if you choose to move with A Mother’s Touch Movers, you don’t have to worry about that!

Whatever time of the year you move, you can always count on A Mother’s Touch for any of your needs. Contact us today with any questions you have and let us get to work for you.
