How to Transport Jewelry During a Move

Many of us have treasured items that we want to protect at all costs. Topping the list for some is jewelry. From unique pieces and handmade items from our children to costly heirlooms, jewelry is something that most moving companies will not transport due to the inherent risk associated with loss or damage. If something goes missing or is broken, you will never be able to have it replaced because of the attached sentimental value. If you are in the process of a move, A Mother’s Touch Movers, Melbourne, FL’s top moving company, can help you from start to finish. We strive to provide excellence to each and every one of our clients. We want to see your precious pieces make it to their destination intact, so here are some great tips for self-packing and transporting jewelry of all kinds.

Have you ever noticed that there is an abundance of advice on how to pack breakables like dishes and glasses? A quick internet search will give you a plethora of advice on how to box up appliances, your bedroom, toys, and more. However, there isn’t much sound advice on how to prep jewelry for moves. There may not be much out there but these tips are simple, easy, and effective.

Plastic Drinking Straws

These are great for keeping necklaces and chains untangled. All you have to do is unclasp them and drape them through the straw. Once you’ve done this, secure the clasp on the outside. Voila, they will arrive untangled.

Toilet Paper Rolls

If your necklaces are bulky use a toilet paper roll to help them arrive in one piece. Follow the same steps as the drinking straw.

Egg Cartons

The next time you finish off an egg carton, keep it around to transport rings and earrings. Once the carton is cleaned out, simply place your rings and earrings in each compartment. After you have the compartments filled, simply cover with a cotton ball or tissue paper. This may not be attractive, but it is a sure-fire way to get your jewelry to your new home.

Pill Boxes and Sunglass Cases

If you have a spare pill box or sunglasses case around, fill them with jewelry items that won’t tangle. This is a great way to get small pieces from place to pace with built-in security.

After you have packed up your items, stow them in a box that you can carry with you as you move. Easy Peasy!
