Top Moving Day Details Not To Be Overlooked

On the day of your move, ideally you’re refreshed and ready to tackle the challenge. If you have been diligent about planning, organization, and packing, you’ll be less overwhelmed. For example, you should already have packed and labeled all boxes by the time you wake up on moving day, and issues like address change notifications and utility service connections at the new residence should already have been established.

But the moving process also means you have work to do after you relocate to your new residence. If you are moving from a rental property or to a leased home or apartment, there are many things you need to consider. Courtesy of A Mother’s Touch Movers in Melbourne, FL, the following list contains important details that should not be neglected on your move day.

* If you have children, pets, or plants, ensure the arrangements to keep them safe and out of the way during the move process are proceeding smoothly. (You may have sent the kids to a sleepover or have a babysitter watching them elsewhere.) Follow up on any special transportation or care issues.

* Finalize unpacking the refrigerator and put the food and drinks into a cooler. Put other last-minute belongings into your overnight bag, full of items you’ll need immediately upon getting to your new residence. This may include toiletries, clothes for the night and next day, chargers, cleaning supplies, medications, and important documents.

* Assess your old residence and tackle any cleaning issues that still require attention before you leave. You may have a landlord that will do a final walk-through inspection, so check the landlord’s list of what will be inspected to ensure you’ve handled them. Empty all trash and disconnect appliances you are moving.

* You shouldn’t lose any security deposit money for normal wear and tear, but a landlord may deduct repair costs if your old residence has been damaged. Resolve issues clearly during the walk-through with your landlord. Also remember to lock up the old place, turn in your keys, and leave a forwarding address with the landlord.

* Inform the movers which items are fragile (and label the boxes) so that additional care can be taken.

* Before moving in, perform a walk-through with your new landlord. Clarify move-in rules (where to get the keys, park the truck, what elevator you can take, etc.) and examine the new residence. Make sure utilities like electricity are functioning.

* Ensure the movers and your family know the new residence’s location and exchange phone numbers and contact information.

* Check for damage to your belongings that may have occurred during transportation, and inform the movers.

* Ask to movers to place items into the correct rooms to save yourself time and effort as you unpack. Keep your priority box in clear sight so you can access it easily.

* Thank and pay the movers, have some dinner, and settle down for a good night’s rest. Tomorrow you can continue the unpacking process.
