Moving Truck Mistakes To Avoid

If you’ve ever had to load up a moving truck, you know it’s much like a game of Tetris. How you establish your foundation has everything to do with the way the game ends. If you are in a rush, it can feel like a level 10 situation where things are moving so fast you don’t have time to catch your breath and make sure you are positioning things correctly.

A Mother’s Touch Movers, Melbourne, FL’s top residential and commercial moving company, has seen it all! Our expert movers have handled everything from antique armoires to office chairs and filing cabinets. We know that the way you pack your truck means everything! One wrong move and your precious belongings could come crashing down on the interstate…and no one wants that. We would love to help you pack up your moving truck even if it isn’t one of our own. This is why we pride ourselves on our ability to customize every move we make. We can work with you from start to finish, help you with moving supplies, or simply assist you with packing your own rental truck. Whatever you need, our professional movers are here to support you. For those of you who choose to go at it solo, we don’t want to see your valuables destroyed in the process any more than you do. Here are some great tips to help you load up your moving vehicle without too much stress.

Okay, you are going to need a little time. We suggest getting the moving truck a day or more before your move to make sure you have the time and manpower to help with the process. Looking into an empty moving truck makes it feel like nothing could go wrong, right? Well…think again. It’s easy to assume that loading the back with boxes from side to side and floor to ceiling is the way to go. DON’T! The first things you want to load are heavy pieces of furniture like dressers, trunks, tables, and such. These allow for a firm foundation that won’t be susceptible to damage due to sliding boxes and the like. Grab a few friends and begin with these items first. If necessary, use packing blankets, old towels, used quilts, or comforters to protect the surface areas. This will also allow you to stack the pieces on top of one another without scratching.

The next step in your grand strategizing plan is to slow down and think about your boxes. The key here is to load the heavy items on the bottom and the lighter ones on top. You also want to maximize your horizontal space by using it all. Create a row of heavy boxes from side to side and then go higher and lighter. If possible, try to make sure you hit the ceiling and if there’s still room, use packing straps to secure everything!

The last items to load are the odd shaped things like laundry baskets, lamps, and baskets. These things are generally lighter in nature and can be put in place easier. Remember Tetris here! If something is loose, strap it down. If you need to fill spaces, you can attempt to do some with irregularly shaped things but keep safety in mind. You don’t want things falling down during the move.

Listen, we know moving is never easier and this is why we hope this post is beneficial to you. If you think a moving company could be helpful, we would love to provide you with an estimate. Contact our office today for more information.
