There is no place in the world like the Space Coast! A Mother’s Touch Movers is proud to serve the residents of Brevard County with expert moving services. With over 30 years of professional moving under our belts, we’ve had the opportunity to serve so many residents of Melbourne with our commercial and residential moving services. We can do the same for you.

We are certainly in unchartered waters with the onset of the coronavirus and all of the changes our nation has experienced. Now we are facing hurricane season. Seriously, what’s next, flying cats? If you are a long-term resident of our area, you know what you need to do to prepare for the unexpected when it comes to hurricanes. However, newbies to the area might wonder what they need to have in place to protect their families in the case of a hurricane emergency.

Now, you may be wondering if a hurricane preparedness kit is even necessary. The unequivocal answer is YES. Hurricanes can bring crushing wind and rain, impart significant damage, cue electrical outages, and leave a wake of destruction behind. You and your family need to be prepared for the worst and keep hope for the best. We are not trying to scare anyone here. We just want you to have everything you need to be safe.

You can begin to build your kit over time, which is something we recommend. Once a storm is headed our way, the grocery and supply stores tend to sell out swiftly. Purchase a few items at a time and your kit will begin to assemble itself. Another thing to note is that you need to be prepared for an evacuation. If you are ordered to leave your home, you will need supplies such as medicine, cash, and chargers to take with you. We’ve compiled a list of must-haves for everyone, new residents and lifers alike.

Water and Food

One gallon of water per person for 2 weeks

Non-perishable foods items enough for each member of the household for 2 weeks

First Aid Kit and Medications

Make sure you have an updated first aid kit and know where it is.

A seven-day supply of any necessary medications is recommended.

Flashlight and Batteries

Every family needs at least one flashlight and back up batteries.

Personal documents

Any documentation related to your home, passport, insurance information, birth certificates, etc.

Hygiene items

You may not be able to shower for several days so items like fresh wipes, baby wipes, hand sanitizer, etc. will be essential.

Cash

Because of potential power outages, you will need a supply of cash on hand.

Fuel

Remember to fill the gas tank on your vehicle and have additional back up for your car and generator.

Tools

You don’t need your entire toolbox; a simple multi-purpose tool will do.

For an exhaustive list, please visit the FEMA website. If you have small children, pets, or care for an aging family member, you may need to consider other items.

We love the beauty of beach life, and we care about the people we serve in the Melbourne and Palm Bay areas with our moving services. We also want you to stay safe. Remember, collect your supplies and place them in bins or a waterproof container for easy access. Stay safe Brevard.
