We don’t know about you, but here at A Mother’s Touch Movers, no one is experiencing a shortage of shoes. If we were to toss all of our pairs of shoes into a bin, well, let’s just say it’s a good thing we are a moving company. Shoes for days! Did you know that the average woman in America owns approximately 19 pairs of shoes while the average male isn’t far behind with about 12 pairs? This is the average, mind you. There are plenty of folks with entire closets dedicated to shoes alone. Needless to say, people love their shoes. So, what happens when you’ve got to pack up your current residence for a move? How do you ensure that all those shoes make it safely across town or the country? Read on for some great shoe packing tips.

1. Sort

Moving is the perfect time to purge your closet. With this being said, take some time and sort your shoes. Styles change so why not lighten your shoe load by getting rid of shoes you don’t wear anymore? Do you really need 6 pairs of black heels? If so, pack them; if not, let them go. You can even donate them to a second-hand shop or make a few bucks off a consignment if the shoes are in great condition,

2. Fill

If you want your shoes to retain their shape while they are stowed away in a packing box, you need to fill them. Experts agree that you can use clean paper or even rolled-up socks. Stuff the toe of the shoe and, if necessary, place paper or socks at the heel too.

3. Wrap

For shoes that are susceptible to scuffs, use clean paper and wrap them. this is a great way to ensure that the delicate material is protected from all sides. You can use whatever you have around the house to get the job done. Don’t have any extra paper? Try using kitchen towels.

4. Box

Athletic shoes and flip flops can easily be stowed away but for your finer footwear boxing is best. You can simply reuse the original packaging or opt for inexpensive plastic shoe bins. Either way, this is a great way to protect your beloved shoes.

5. Tie

Assuming you aren’t placing your lace-up shoes in their own containers, the best way to transport them is to tie them together at the laces. This step will keep your shoes together and prevent you from digging through different boxes looking for a mate.
